Equipotential Bonding - Hydrovac

*****NEW*****

Hydrovac operators working around high voltage lines can be exposed to dangerous shock hazards in the event of electric faults and contacts. Unfortunately, some incidents have resulted in fatalities.

DETAC's Equipotential Bonding for Hydrovac Operators is an interactive exploration of electrical hazards and how they can be managed effectively. The course covers working around underground or overhead high voltage lines, or in areas where static electricity could ignite flammable vapors. The goal is to help operators understand the principles so they can apply the right types of controls for the wide range of field situations.

(If you also deal with cleaning operations in flammable areas, where managing static electricity hazards is critical, you may want to take the complete course "Equipotential Bonding and Grounding - Hydrovac and Vacuum Trucks")

Course Content

  • A downloadable Bonding Guide to provide a resource during and after the course.
  • Electrical Basics - to provide a basic understanding of electricity in simple terms, including Voltage, Current, Resistance, Static, Shock Charactersitics, Bonding, Grounding, Step and Touch Potential
  • Hydrovac Operation - use practical field situations to understand how to work safely around high voltage powerlines, including Bonding Methods, Equipment, Attachments, Operating Restrictions, Inspection, Maintenance and Job Planning.
  • Final Exam - to help reinforce your knowledge.
  • This course will take roughly 1  hour to complete
